History of Group The Muzenza Capoeira Group
The Muzenza Capoeira Group was founded on the 5th of May 1972 by Pulo Sérgio da Silva (Master Paulão), who came from Master Mintirinha’s (Luís Américo da Silva) group Capoarte de Obaluaê.

In October 1975, Master Burguês (Antonio Carlos de Menezes) arrives at Curitiba - Paraná, whom after having lectured in the neighbourhoods of Méier and Madureira in Rio de Janeiro, decides to found another headquarters of Grupo Muzenza in the south of Brazil. He further developed a methodology and a philosophy of his own, turning to the roots of Capoeira for his inspiration and begun teaching in clubs, quarters, schools, academies, disadvantaged communities and racially marginalised people.
Today Grupo Muzenza has over 15.000 pupils who have graduated and trained through the Curitiba’s Grupo Muzenza, this includes a number of our own Australian students. The group has spread throughout 25 Brazilian States and 23 different countries. Master Burguês travels internationally and continues his quest for defining the essence and the roots of capoeira through a lot of research in our contemporary world.
Since 1975 Grupo Muzenza has been presided by Master Burguês, and has its headquarters at Rua Marechal Deodoro da Fonseca, 148 1º andar centro - Curitiba - Paraná - Brasil.
